Battlefield 1 Revealed – Set in WW1

After a week of teasing and a few leaks, Battlefield fans finally have some info about the next installment of the franchise. Set in an alternate WW1 timeline, Battlefield 1 looks massively impressive in its first trailer. Teasing features like chemical weapons, gas masks, tanks, blimps and FREAKING HORSES, this game looks to be the exact opposite of the recently announced yawnfest CoD: Infinite Warfare, which has been subject to massively negative response on youtube, reddit, and where people have pulses.

Hopefully this departure from the perennial modern shooter will be a shot in the arm for the FPS genre. Recent ‘Battlefield’ (using that term lightly) installments haven’t been faring well, with player count of both Star Wars: Battlefront and Battlefield: Hardline well below that of the 2013 Battlefield 4.

BF4: 29,916
BFH: 2,508
SWBF: 6,276
24 Hour Peak for PC at the time of writing

I’ll try to be cautiously optimistic about the next title, given EA’s reputation for less than stellar releases. The thought of a well executed rush game mode with trench warfare is giving me goosebumps.

Battlefield 1 is slated for release on October 21st on PS4, XBOX ONE, and PC. Early Enlister Super Special Pre-Order Fun Pack will have an October 18th release, which gets you all sorts of goodies like DLC and extra camos and stuff.
