World of Warcraft: Legion

We’re all thinking the same thing – a new expansion on its way? Now? Warlords of Draenor just barely got out of the honeymoon stage.

Blizzard’s live presentation a few hours ago at Gamescom in Germany revealed World of Warcraft: Legion, along with the game’s newest features. You would think we’d be waiting a year or two for this kind of content reveal, but as of now, it’s looking like we’ll see the full release sometime next year. There’s no official release date yet, but the beta will be available later this year, according to Kotaku.

Some of the new features include:

  • Demon Hunter class
  • The return of Dalaran as the main player hub
  • The Emerald Nightmare
  • Level 110
  • Class Halls
  • Ashbringer and Doombringer as artifact weapons

I’m actually really excited for this one. I know that’s a dangerous thing to say, considering the travesty that Warlords quickly became, but the whole theme of the trailer is that the Burning Legion is returning. The Burning Crusade is still remembered fondly by many older WoW players as the best expansion, and it’s highly likely that by going back to that, they’ll be able to bring back some of their subscribers. Releasing an expansion this soon is kind of uncharacteristic for Blizzard, but Warlords came to an abrupt halt earlier this year after many attempts to salvage it.

Maybe this’ll be a chance for Blizzard to make a comeback? Demon-related things seem to help with that.
