This Final Fantasy XV Retrospective is Damn Informative

on

Final Fantasy XV, originally Final Fantasy XIII Versus XIII, has been in development for about 8 years now. Even today the game is only about 60% complete. If you’ve been wondering exactly what the hell has been happening with the game since it was first announced at E3 2006, this video is for you.

There is so much involved with this game that I didn’t previously know about. Admittedly, I haven’t had the time to really sit down and follow the game as closely as I would have liked, but I didn’t really know how much had happened behind the scenes. Development hadn’t even begun to start when it was first announced. Further, it turns out the debacle with the first release of Final Fantasy XIV, the Square Enix MMORPG has a lot to do with why we’ve only caught glimpses of the game and why even today development appears to be slow.

Resource mismanagement also plays a big part into the story, and definitely plays into the general frustration and disappointment among many of us who have been wanting more from the game developer. Granted, I am a fan of Square Enix taking chances with new IPs as a publisher: Life is Strange looks incredibly interesting, and say what you want about the game but Murdered: Soul Suspect had its moments. I just wish original Square Enix developed properties could be near as good.

We are soon going to finally be able to experience where Final Fantasy XV is right now, however. Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae is an upcoming demo for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One that will be packaged with Final Fantasy Type-0 set for release on March 17, 2015 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in North America. Type-0 was supposed to be a part of the same series of games Versus XIII was, however it saw a similar fate and the title changed. It is also a re-release of the PSP game released in 2011.

Hopefully Final Fantasy XV can help Square Enix gain some trust back in the gaming community. As this Final Fantasy XV retrospective shows, the development side of the company has been through some rough times, but goddamn it I want to finally play the game! If you liked this video give the channel TheGamingShelf a subscribe. Now I also kind of want him to give us a Kingdom Hearts III retrospetive. That’s another game I am practically drooling for, and I’d be interested to see more information on that title.
