GTAV Heists and PC Release Dates Announced

I’ve been waiting for this announcement for forever! After more than a year, Rockstar announced definitive release dates for the heists components to Grand Theft Auto: Online as well as the PC version of the game.

The announcement for the March 10 release of heists read “We are excited to announce that the launch of Heists for GTA Online is scheduled for March 10th. We know it’s been a wait, and appreciate your patience.” To say it’s “been a wait” is a bit of an understatement considering this feature, which was promised from the start, is now only being implemented well more than a year after the initial release of the game. I can understand that it’s a difficult feature to implement in an online setting, and not only implement but implement to the quality and standards of a Rockstar game, but I can’t help but feel this whole story is a lesson in expectation management and not over-promising. Hell, I’d be almost ecstatic if they never mentioned heists in GTA Online until today and the whole thing was left as an amazing surprise. Instead of joy, I approach this story with a sense of relief. “Finally” is probably the first word that sprung to mind.

The second part of the announcement concerned the April 14 PC release of the game. If you’re a PC gamer and you were afraid Grand Theft Auto 5 would be yet another crappy port, Rockstar is working to put your mind at ease. “The PC version of Grand Theft Auto V is our most graphically and technically advanced version yet, fully optimized to support a broad range of current hardware (system specifications) and features a host of PC-specific enhancements including greater levels of detail, deep configuration options and ultra-high-definition support – as well as the powerful new Rockstar Editor for recording, staging and editing original custom videos.”

Honestly, judging by the screens on the announcement, I will have made the right decision in waiting to buy my (second) copy of the game until the PC release. It looks like it will be damn good, and I can’t wait to try out the Rockstar Editor for some truly amazing sandbox fun. In the meantime, I’ll get to see what the console crowd thinks of the GTAV heists when they are released on March 10 before playing on the PC on April 14.
