This Steampunk Stealth Game Looks Pretty Sweet

After a long time of being quasi-cancelled, Size Five Games developer, Dan Marshall released a new teaser trailer for The Swindle showing what he’s turned the game into, and I have to admit: the game looks fun as hell!

The Swindle is a steampunk stealth game that’s a 2D sidescrolling platformer where you, the player, try to break into a building, steal as much loot as possible, then break back out without getting captured or killed. From the looks of it, the game encourages multiple modes of thinking and moving through each level depending on your play style, and of course plenty of risk/reward decisions during the fast-paced “rogue-lite”. In design, it reminds me a lot of Mark of the Ninja‘s 2D stealth with the philosophy of what Thief should have been. The developer, however, considers it a cross between Spelunky and Deus Ex, so read into that what you will.

The hopeful projection for the game’s release is early 2015, but this is also coming from a developer who seems to have a habit of soft-cancelling games during development if he “can’t find the fun.” In the future, though, there may be a beta if gamers are interested. Make sure to follow Dan on Twitter and let him know you’re interested in the beta if you are.
