Holy Crap, People, a Tetris Movie is Coming

on

Holy crap. hold the phones, stop the presses, forget everything you were about to do… because a Tetris movie is in the works! Yes, you read that right. Tetris the game that has the least plot ever (aside from maybe Pong), is getting the movie treatment.

According to the Tetris company website, Threshold Entertainment will be creating a live action film based on the game. It is, quoting Threshold CEO Larry Kasanoff, “a very big, epic sci-fi movie. This isn’t a movie with a bunch of lines running around the page. We’re not giving feet to geometric shapes.” Well there goes my hopes for an epic ‘Flatland’ movie, but let’s get back to what’s important. Larry Kasanoff, the guy who helped adapt Mortal Kombat is giving the same treatment to Tetris. Maybe.

It’s all just an announcement, and we don’t know if people are going to see the light about how terrible of an idea this will be (Battleship, anyone?) but hey… it’s still pretty much the craziest goddamn thing ever. to give an idea of the plot, or the scope of the plot, Kasanoff added “What you [will] see in ‘Tetris’ is the teeny tip of an iceberg that has intergalactic significance.”

My question, though, is will the Tetris movie be anywhere NEAR as good as any of the fan films? My guess is no.
